Fuselage (page 27)
This photo is of the prototype during the
earlier phases of construction.
First piece of skin applied!
First piece of skin installed. Viewed from the inside.
March 8 2010 2.0 - 936.0 total. Looked through new
CD again and plotted out a couple of pages I was
missing including the page showing pulley placement
and rigging in the fuselage. Removed clamps and straps
from last night's glue job. Skin looks great in place!
Made a couple 1/8 backing plates for the pulleys on
BH-20. Continued working on the spruce blocking
strips between lower longerons and cockpit floor.
March 11 2010 3.0hrs - 939.0 total. Started printing
out 8 1/2 X 11 copies of the full size plans to have as
reference to see what new sheets I need to get plotted.
Am about half done. Ground down, shaped, and final
sanded the upper port longeron, all except the last few
inches on the forward end as its difficult to reach behind
a support.
March 12 2010 1.0hrs - 940.0 total. Finished making the SB side blocking pieces for between the longeron and the
floor.  Need to glue them in place. Started making a list of tasks to do. As there are no step by step directions at this
point in the construction I often find myself standing for long periods and just looking and thinking about what needs
to be done. I try to visualise each step to insure nothing happens that would end up being out of sequence or needing
to be re-done. Sometime I end up wasting hours just trying to figure out what should be done next. Hopefully a list
of tasks will help keep me moving.
March 15 2010 1.5hrs - 941.5 total. The plans call for "hardwood" pieces in several places especially for 1/16"
hardwood or ply. Neither Aircraft Spruce, Wicks, or my local hardwood shop have anything like that, so I'm
planning to slice up some larger pieces. Went and picked up a small piece of red oak 1 X 10. Cut a 4" X 5" piece and
sanded down to 1/2" thick, beveled the edges, and finished making the plate for mounting the main elevator control
horn.
March 16 2010 2.0hrs - 943.5 total. Finished printing out the rest of the plans in 8.5 X 11 format and put in 3 ring
binder to have as reference for full sized sheets.  Also plotted out a couple of full size sheets.
March 17 2010 1.0hrs - 944.5 total. Dug out the stored hardware that I had made or purchased earlier and started
assembling the main control horn with its mounting brackets.  Am missing some bushing material, but I can get that
locally.
March 18 2010 2.0hrs - 946.5 total. Found the bushing material in a box in the shop. Did a little more prep work on
the starboard blocking strips between the lower main longeron and the cockpit floor then glued them in place.
March 19 2010 2.5hrs - 949.0 total. Cut ans shaped the blocking strips for the port side. Had to stop and replace
the sanding disc on the sander. Did a little final sanding on the rudder box and wiped it down in preparation for
sealing it. I want to tint the sealer so I can tell if I missed any spots when its being applied. I have white and black
pigment. I'm planning to use even amounts of both to get a hopefully grey color.
March 20 2010 4.5hrs - 953.5 total. Sealed the rudder box. Tried various pigment amounts. A little black creates a
very dark though slightly transparent epoxy. White just seems to make it slightly milky. Mixing white and black to
various degrees just goes from black to less black to more milky/clear. Glued in the port floor to longeron blocking
pieces. Found a slightly splintered area on one of the stringers, glued and clamped it.
Rudder box sealed
and painted (Color
may be  a little off
due to lighting)
